Film in the Valley: Owl Powers

Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend: Orienteering

Join the park naturalist at the amphitheater to learn how to orient yourselves with a map and compass. Hunting season and fall leaf watching/hiking is fast approaching, I would not want you to get lost if you have no cellphone reception to find your way out of the woods. Learning how to read a compass is a great survival skill to have while exploring different areas. Compass and maps will be provided for the program while supplies last.

Fluorescent Mushroom Foray

Join WPMC Mycologists & Identifiers at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom for an evening stroll through the Forest Cathedral. We will use 365nm UV flashlights to light up the trail and search for fungi that glow in response to ultraviolet light. Parts of the path are flatter but some sections have steep grades of 10-17%. Expect to walk 1-2 miles, but participants can shorten the distance as needed.
Participants should bring a headlamp, ideally with a red light, and wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. Participants are encouraged to bring their own UV flashlight. Leaders will provide protective eyewear.

"Finding Red" on Radcliff

Join the park naturalist at shelter 4 to hike a moderate 1.5-mile hike as we look for the trees that are first to turn red. Along the way we will learn a little bit more about the CCC history within the park. Please wear appropriate hiking gear, sturdy shoes as there is uneven terrain, wear bug spray, and bring water.

Fire Tower/Seneca Point Historical Tour

Please bring your binoculars and meet at the Fire Tower Parking Lot for an historical interpretive tour of the Fire Tower and Seneca Point by DCNR Conservation Volunteer, Greg Burns. Learn about local logging history, observe Indian sign, and take a breathtaking view from the top of the Fire Tower.

Please meet the Friends of Cook Forest at the Park Office as we clean litter off of Forest Road from Rt. 36 to the Sawmill Theater. Depending on attendance we could clean other roads in the park as well. All supplies will be provided, please dress for the weather.
