An Historical Perspective of Cook Forest Through the Eyes of an 1800's Woodhick

He’ll be telling old stories of lumbering exploits as he leads us to large and ancient trees on Mohawk and Ridge Trails. Don’t forget your flashlights and headlamps!

Camp Fright: 3rd Annual Spooky Night

Join the fun of competing & judging campsite decorations here at Ridge Camp the weekend of October 6 & 7, 2023. All proceeds will benefit the Ridge Camp playground equipment replacement fund.
Eligibility – Camp Site: To have your site judged, you must have a site reserved at Ridge Camp Friday, Oct. 6 & Saturday, Oct. 7. You must register and make a donation of any amount ($5 minimum suggested) at Camp Host site #52 on Oct 6 (4-8pm) or Oct 7(9am-12pm). You will be given a ribbon to attach to your site post to alert campers that your site is entered to be judged.
Eligibility – Judging: To judge/vote for your favorite site, all you need to do is make a donation of $1 or more at Camp Host site #52 on Oct 6(4-8pm) or Oct 7(9am-12pm) to receive a ballot.
Ballots: Ballots must be put in the box at Camp Host site #52 no later than 8pm on Saturday.
NOTICE: Please do not enter campsites to judge. Judging can be done from the roads within the campground.
Top three winning sites will be announced & prizes awarded at 9pm on Oct 7 at the camp amphitheater, or front pavilion (inclement weather). Refreshments will be available!

Come enjoy some hot coffee, hot chocolate, and hot tea around the fire place at Shelter 5 and talk with the Clear Creek State Park Environmental Educator.
Enjoy a peaceful morning listening to the fire crackle and the birds chirping while it rains.

Join Dr. Michelle Warnckle on 2 easy, connected loop trails in Cook Forest, the Black Bear Trail and the accessible Paved Sensory Trail. The Black Bear Trail is a flat trail with a dirt surface and some roots, the Paved Sensory Trail is an asphalt surface with benches and a guide wire.
Easy 1 hour, 1.3 mile walk on a gravel trail, one accessible trail, one is not, no bathrooms on the trail.

Parking lot at the beginning of the Paved Sensory Trail 41.353420, -79.217099. From the road to the Sawmill Center for the Arts in Cook Forest turn left at the sign for the Paved Sensory Trail, proceed up the hill past the water tower and find the trail head 1/4 mile further up the hill. We’ll start with a hike on the nearly flat 1.1 mile Black Bear Trail, then finish with an even easier 0.2 mile loop on the Paved Sensory Trail.

Fire Tower/Seneca Point Historical Tour

Learn about local logging history, observe Indian sign, and take a breathtaking view from the top of the Fire Tower.
